Frequently Asked Questions

Hello Families, we would like to share some answers to frequently asked questions with you!

When should my child say their first word? 

 Children usually say their first word by the age of 12 months. 

​

What should I do if my child is not able to be understood by others? 

 After the age of 4, a child should be understood 100% of the time to familiar and unfamiliar listeners. Your child may need speech therapy to help with their pronunciation of speech sounds. 

​

My child is nonspeaking, what should I do?

Schedule an AAC Consultation with us to determine your child's communication access methods and needs. We will then complete intake paperwork and schedule an AAC Evaluation.  

​

What are the benefits of AAC?

There are many research studies that share that Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) provides positive benefits for communication growth in children who are nonspeaking or are minimally speaking. AAC can be used with Autistic children, children with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and other genetic disorders.

What happens after we schedule a free consultation?

 After we schedule a consultation, a Speech Language Pathologist will get in contact with you to schedule an evaluation. After the consultation, we will then complete intake paperwork. 

​

How long do evaluations take?

Evaluations can sometimes be around ~1 hour.  We will let you know if we will need to book a second session to complete          testing. Evaluations are usually completed every 6 month period. 

​

How can I build speech and language skills at home?

A few ways to build speech and language skills at home are playing games (e.g. Simon Says, Eye Spy, Freeze Dance), modeling language during daily routines (e.g. getting dressed, preparing meal times, getting ready for bed), narrating the things you do out loud, and asking questions about books and TV shows.

How can I pay for services? 

At this time we accept Medicaid, BCBS TX Insurance in network plans, Private Pay, and PDSES Grants for services.

​

Do you have an attendance, cancellation, or no show policy?

Yes, if you will need to reschedule a session, our clinic must be notified 48 hours in advance either in writing or via phone call/text. We allow 1 emergency cancellation. If you are are over 15 minutes late, the session will be cancelled. If you are late more than 2 times or a no-show, your frequency of sessions will be reduced or you may even be removed from the therapy schedule.

Do you provide bilingual services?

At this time we do not provide bilingual services but we hope to hire a bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist or Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant, and  interpreter to provide bilingual services. We are able to refer out to a bilingual speech therapist.

Can you provide a Superbill for services for my insurance provider?

Yes, we are are able to provide Superbills.

​

Will I get a copy of my child's evaluation?

 Yes, we will provide you with a copy and discuss the details with you. After that, we will create a treatment plan of care for         your child.

​

What does a speech therapy session look like?

We use play based and neuro-diversity affirming methods to meet your child's needs. We like to incorporate your child's       special interests in therapy to motivate them. We also focus on the child's sensory needs in order to prevent them from becoming overstimulated in sessions. 

​

Where can your sessions be provided?

We can provide convenient in person therapy to families to Houston and Katy. We can provide telehealth services to the entire state of Texas. 

​

What is the benefit of telehealth speech therapy services?

Telehealth services provide accessibility to speech therapy services from the convenience of your home. Some families may benefit from telehealth due to scheduling differences or accessibility needs. Not all children may be able to tolerate Telehealth, but this may be a great option for some children. Telehealth provides accessibility to services areas that may not have access to a speech therapist or speech therapy clinic near them.

What ages do you work with?

We provide therapy to children between the ages of 2-21 in the state of Texas. 

​

Can you provide parent coaching?

Yes! Parent coaching is a vital part of the therapy process! Parent education helps with carryover of goal progress into the home. We can empower you on your child's communication journey. 

​

How often will my child receive services?

Based on your child's evaluation recommendations, your child's therapy schedule will be made based on their individual needs. 

​

Do you charge any additional fees.

Yes, we charge additional travel fees for locations out of our specified travel radius. We charge an additional $10 base rate to each individual session rate that is 30+ minutes away from our travel radius. 

​

Can you provide speech therapy services in Daycares?

Yes, we can provide services in your child's daycare and send you session communication notes to inform you of your child's progress.
